World’s oldest man, Yasutaro Koide, dies at 112

The world’s oldest man passed away in Japan on Tuesday. He was 112 years old.

CNN noted that Yasutaro Koide, who was recognized by the Guinness World Records as the oldest living man in August, died in the Japanese city of Nagoya.

"I felt very honored that I have had a chance to meet Mr. Yasutaro Koide last summer, surrounded by his warm family and relatives," Erika Ogawa, vice president of Guinness World Records Japan, said in a statement. "The stories of his adolescent years encouraged all of us who were there. I would like to express my sorrow and condolences to him and his family."

The Associated Press said that Koide died in a hospital where he was being treated for heart problems. He died just two months shy of his 113th birthday.

In Japan, the title of oldest living man in that country now goes to Masamitsu Yoshida at 111 years old. The world’s oldest living person is a 116-year-old female who resides in Brooklyn, New York.
