Whoopi Goldberg weighs in on Oscars controversy, won't boycott like Jada Pinkett Smith and Spike Lee

With African Americans like Spike Lee and Jada Pinkett Smith boycotting the Oscars this year, it seems the entire community is fed up with the lack of diversity within the Oscar nominations year. Whoopi Goldberg, an Oscar winner herself, is now weighing in.

Goldberg won her Oscar in 1991 for her role in Ghost alongside Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore. During The View on Tuesday, Goldberg admitted she was “pissed off” that more black actors aren’t getting recognized like she was. She's more upset at the fact that we only bring this up once a year.

“Why is this a conversation that we only have once a year?" she asked. "Every year we get all fired up and the rest of the year nobody says anything."

Goldberg continued to say boycotting the event just makes things worse, and it’s also a “slap in the face” to host Chris Rock.  “We have this conversation every year and it pisses me off,” she continued.

Goldberg went on to point out the lack of support for smaller film production companies who are making more diverse films and the lack of quality roles African American actors obtain.

“I’m not going to boycott, but I’m going to continue to b-tch as I have all year round because I’m tired of seeing movies where no one is represented except a bit of the population, not all of it,” she continued.
