‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ gets a season 2 premiere date, season 3 pick-up

Kimmy gets renewed! Even though we have to wait four months until the second season premiere of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (dammit!), Netflix has already renewed it for a third season.

During the Television Critics Association Press Tour, Netflix announced that the Tina Fey, Robert Carlock-created show will return on April 15. Shortly thereafter, the streaming site said it will also get a third season, which will be up in 2017.

Kimmy Schmidt stars former The Office actress Ellie Kemper as the title character, who came to New York after living in a bomb shelter in Indiana for over a decade. Other members of the cast include Tituss Burgess, Carol Kane and Jane Krakowski. We recapped the entire first season and you can read our season finale recap here.

During the TCA presentation, Fey confirmed that she has another role in the show. During season one, she played an incompetent prosecutor who tried to put the Rev. Richard Wayne Gary Wayne (Jon Hamm) in prison.

The show has earned critical acclaim and several nominations. It earned seven Emmy nominations, although Kemper missed out. She is up for a Screen Actors Guild Award, though.
