Twitter loses group of executives as struggles to grow continue

More Twitter executives are leaving the struggling social media network, co-founder and current CEO Jack Dorsey confirmed over the weekend.

Recode reported that media head Katie Jacobs Stanton, product head Kevin Weil, engineering head Alex Roetter and product director Jason Toff are all leading. The New York Times also reported that the executives were leaving.

Dorsey didn’t sound too happy that the news broke in the media first. “Was really hoping to talk to Twitter employees about this later this week, but want to set the record straight now,” he tweeted Sunday, including a long statement that confirmed the reports. Dorsey said that the Brian ‘Skip’ Schipper, vice president of human resources, was also leaving.

In an interview with the Times, Dorsey said that the departures were voluntary.

Dorsey didn’t mention Toff, but he is leaving to rejoin Google. Toff was also the general manager of Vine.

Twitter has struggled to grow as recent features haven’t caught on with current users and have failed to attract new ones. Since Dorsey took over, there have been rumors of major overhauls. Earlier this month, it was rumored that Twitter might add a new feature to allow users to post messages that have 10,000 characters. That would significantly change Twitter’s purpose, since messages have always been limited to 140 characters or less.
