Trailer Park: ‘The Forest’ hopes to clear away the competition

Characters find themselves in serious situations in this week’s new films. They’re victims of crimes with their lives are on the line. In new horror film, the souls of the dead haunt the living.

A woman can feel when her twin sister is in trouble in The Forest, starring Natalie Dormer. When her twin goes missing, she heads to Aokigahara Forest at the foot of Mt. Fuji to find her. It is there in the woods where people go to commit suicide and the souls of the deceased lurk. The PG-13 horror film runs for 93 minutes.

 

A Columbia University professor’s mugging is the focal point of Anesthesia. The limited released drama flashes back to show how the crime unfolds and how a group of seemingly unrelated people are connected. The 90-minute drama stars Glenn Close, Gretchen Mol, Kristen Stewart, Katie Chang, Sam Waterson and Tim Blake Nelson. The film is rated R for language, sex, drugs and violence.

 

A middle aged man befriends an 11-year-old loner girl in Lamb. In an attempt to give her a new outlook on life, he takes her on a road trip from the city of Chicago to the great outdoors of the Rockies. During their adventure together, secrets come to light that impact their lives. The unrated drama is based on Bonnie Nadzam’s novel of the same name. The limited-released film runs for 96 minutes.

 

The wife of a Civil War veteran is kidnapped in Diablo. Determined to find her, her loving husband sets out on a mission to get her back. With danger at every turn, he puts his life on the line to save her. Scott Eastwood, Walton Goggins, Camilla Belle, Adam Beach, Joaquim de Almeida and Danny Glover star in the 83-minute thriller. The limited-released film is rated R for violence and language.


This week’s releases have some serious subject matter. However, next week’s new films are sure to lighten the mood. The animated comedy Norm of the North enters theaters on Jan. 15, alongside Kevin Hart and Ice Cube’s Ride Along sequel.
