The 2016 Golden Globes are scheduled for this Sunday, and while the Oscars are considered the apex of awards season, the Golden Globes serve as a forerunner. Essentially, what wins or gets a fair amount of buzz here carries over to the next major event.
For 2016, the nominations out in December reflect what’s been getting the most buzz. Spotlight has been said to revive the journalism-focused movie, Leonardo Dicaprio’s finally in line to receive an Oscar, and Alicia Vikander came out of nowhere in 2015 to star in two critically acclaimed pieces.
Yet, voters are known for playing it safe for both award shows, and what could seem controversial essentially gets left behind in favor of something more neutral.
