‘Spotlight,’ Leonardo DiCaprio and ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ win big at Critics’ Choice Awards

After the Broadcast Film Critics Association made the controversial decision to add Star Wars: The Force Awakens to its roster of Best Picture nominees late, the blockbuster turned out to not be a serious contender at the Critics’ Choice Awards last night. Instead, Spotlight and Mad Max: Fury Road were the big winners.

Back in December, the BFCA added The Force Awakens to the Best Picture roster as an 11th nominee. However, it was not added to other categories and lost the top prize. Instead, the Best Picture winner was the acclaimed journalism drama Spotlight.

Tom McCarthy’s film also won Best Acting Ensemble and Best Original Screenplay (Tom McCarthy & Josh Singer).

George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road took home nine awards, including Best Director. Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron were named the best leads in an Action Movie. The film also won Best Action Movie and Best Editing.

The Revenant took home two awards: Best Actor for Leonardo DiCaprio and Best Cinematography for Emmanuel Lubezki. The Big Short was another multi-award winner thanks to its Adapted Screenplay and Christian Bale’s Best Actor in a Comedy award.
