Lip Sync Battle, the highest-rated original show in Spike’s history, has been renewed for a third season, the network announced today.
Season three will begin production later this year. The new season will include 20 half-hour episodes.
“Lip Sync Battle is a multiplatform pop-culture phenomenon that has played an integral role in delivering a new and broader audience to Spike,” Spike PResident Kevin Kay said in a statement.
The show, which was inspired by Jimmy Fallon’s popular Tonight Show sketches, was averaged 4.4 million viewers over the first two episodes of season two and a huge 3.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic.
But the show hasn’t been just a hit on television. Episodes have been streamed over half a billion times. The first episode of season two, which featured Channing Tatum, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Beyonce and Paula Abdul has been seen over 50 million times online.
The show is shown in over 130 countries around the world. NCIS: Los Angeles star LL Cool J and model Chrissy Teigen host the series.
