Sony changes release dates for ‘Spider-Man,’ ‘Jumanji’

The release date shuffle is going on in Hollywood today. Sony joined in this afternoon by shifting release dates for its reboots of Spider-Man and Jumanji.

Spider-Man will star Tom Holland as the web-slinger and Marisa Tomei as Aunt May. Jon Watts is directing the film, which will be a part of Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to a deal the two sides stuck. Holland’s Spidey will make his debut in this year’s Captain America: Civil War.

Spider-Man was supposed to come out on July 28, 2017, but it will come out a few weeks sooner on July 7, 2017. The date opened up after Disney moved Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales to May 26, 2017.

Jumanji was delayed. It was originally supposed to come out on Dec. 25, 2016, but that date sounded impossible. Director Jake Kasdan was only hired last week and there’s been no casting done. It will now come out on Spider-Man’s old date, July 28, 2017.

All this shuffling around came just as Disney changed the date for Star Wars: Episode VIII, which is now coming out in December 2017.
