One Direction is making their hiatus a little easier to bear by releasing the music video for their new single "History."
The music video features footage of the band from their beginnings on the television show The X-Factor, to behind-the-scenes footage of tours, performances and meet-and-greets with fans. They also heavily feature departed member Zayne Malik in the video, notes The New York Daily News.
In an interview withEntertainment Weekly, Liam Payne called "History," a modern version of "You've Got a Friend in Me."
“[M]ore than anything, the song is about the way the fans and everyone have created this massive thing — One Direction — over the past five years. Out of [‘History’] comes a little bit of closure for this chapter of One Direction," Payne said.
The band announced their hiatus last May, just two months after Malik suddenly left the band in March 2015. Malik will release "Pillow Talk," his first song since leaving the band, this Friday.
