If you're one of many Star Wars fans who got a BB-8 robot toy for Christmas, the experience of using it is about to get even cooler.
Sphero just previewed what they're calling the Force Band, which users can wear around their wrist and then control their BB-8 toy with hand gestures. Pushing your hand in any direction moves the toy that way, and it even follows your hand around as you move it above its head.
The Force Band will hit stores this fall, and it will be sold separately from the BB-8 so that those who already have one can upgrade. Sphero will also be selling an updated BB-8 toy that comes with the wristband, although they have not yet specified a price on that. The current smartphone-controlled model costs $150.
Since appearing in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the new BB-8 droid has been a major part of Disney's marketing. The studio is expected to make $5 billion on Star Wars merchandise this year, meaning they will have made back when they spent buying Lucasfilm on these products alone.
