The marketing team at 20th Century Fox has been on fire with their Deadpool advertising, and a brilliant new campaign pretends the vulgar superhero flick is actually a romantic comedy.
Several of the latest posters featured on the film's social media pages turn Deadpool into a cheesy romance movie, which is appropriate considering it opens on Valentine's Day weekend. There is absolutely no sign that this is really an R-rated film about a deranged man blowing his enemies' heads off and making sex jokes.

It's a pretty clever way to generate some buzz online, but how great would it be if even one or two people head out to see Deadpool next month genuinely thinking it will be like The Notebook? They'll be in for quite a surprise.
A few confused people spending their money on Deadpool certainly would be a big help, as this could be a box office disaster. For one, it's an R-rated superhero film, which instantly turns away a huge portion of the audience that typically flocks to these comic book movies. Just take a look at Kick-Ass, a vulgar, R-rated superhero adventure which grossed $48 million domestically. After the failure of Fantastic Four, Fox really needs this one to be a hit.
Deadpool stars Ryan Reynolds, Gina Carano, Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein and T.J. Miller. It hits theaters on Feb. 12.
