Netflix has just ordered a new series based on the popular Hasbro toy Stretch Armstrong.
According to Deadline, the streaming service will be adapting Stretch Armstrong into an animated comedy for release in 2017. The 26-episode season will follow a teenager named Jake Armstrong and his two best friends, who become Stretch Armstrong and the Flex Fighters after being exposed to an experimental chemical. Now a trio of superheroes, the gang embarks on a series of adventures.
Netflix also announced two other shows aimed at younger audiences: Lalaloopsy, a musical; and The Greenhouse, a live-action drama.
“With roughly half of our 75 million members regularly watching kids content, we’re happy to expand our original slate with these three great series,” Netflix's Director of Global Kids Content Andy Yeatman said. “We know kids love Netflix and that’s in part because they never really outgrow us."
Stretch Armstrong will be Hasbro's first collaboration with Netflix. The toy company has previously produced the films Battleship, Transformers, G.I. Joe and Ouija, based on their products.
Hasbro recently unveiled a 2016 version of Stretch Armstrong at the 2016 Toy Fair, according to The Independent.
