If you expected Marvel to slow down with their blockbuster movies anytime soon, don't count on it. Disney CEO Bob Iger said we should expect new films from them until the end of time.
In an interview with BBC News, Iger discussed the future of the Marvel film franchise.
"Marvel, you're dealing with thousands and thousands of characters - that will go on forever," said Iger.
The studio currently has eleven films announced for release over the next few years: Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man (with Sony), Thor: Ragnarok, Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War Part 1, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Captain Marvel, Avengers: Infinity War Part 2 and Inhumans.
Exhausting, huh? Those will all be hitting theaters within just three years, as we've previously reported. Is there any chance that audiences will grow sick of these films now that so many of them are populating theaters? Iger doesn't seem to think so.
"No, I don't think they're getting weary," he said. "But I think we keep raising the bar in terms of telling stories that bring them back, that excite them, that make it feel new and that is what we do for a living."
Iger also discussed the future of the Star Wars franchise. He didn't go as far as to say the Star Wars movies will go on forever, but he did point out that there will certainly be more installments after the five that have been announced. Iger isn't exactly sure how many there will be or how often they will come out, implying that the current plan of releasing a Star Wars every single year could potentially slow down at some point.
