The Playboy Mansion is up for sale and an unexpected bidder has emerged. Larry Flynt and Hustler Media reportedly want to put in a bid to own the mansion run by his rival.
The New York Daily News claims to have obtained an internal memo from Hustler executives that they are considering a bid for the iconic mansion. However, they have no intention of meeting the reported asking price of $200 million and don’t want to let Playboy founder Hugh Hefner live there.
“Larry (Flynt) and I have talked about it and are preparing a bid,” Harry Mohney, who runs the company that operates the Larry Flynt’s Hustler Club chain. “We feel it is an excellent place for The Hustler Club and Hustler Mansion.”
TMZ spoke to Flynt last week and he said he wasn’t interested in the Playboy Mansion at first. The site’s sources also claim that Hefner isn’t likely to approve of his rival buying the mansion.
“He gave those quotes before he and I spoke,” Mahoney told the Daily News about Flynt’s TMZ interview. “We spoke over the weekend, discussed some figures, and he thought the Hustler Mansion had huge potential.”
Playboy is selling the mansion as it tries to reestablish itself in the magazine world. The publication has dropped photos of nude women.
