Quentin Tarantino is a huge film buff in addition to being a director himself and his pick for one of the best movies of 2015 is pretty unexpected.
In a new interview with Metro, Tarantino named The Intern as one of his favorite films of last year. The movie came up in a discussion about the lack of female directors in Hollywood, as The Intern was directed by Nancy Meyers.
"They’re not considering that for the Oscars even though I think Robert De Niro gave one of the best performances this year in that movie," Tarantino said. "I thought the script was actually one of [Nancy Meyers'] best. Right up there with It’s Complicated."
Yet as Tarantino points out, names like Meyers' don't really come up when, for example, The Hollywood Reporter is assembling its roundtable discussion with the industry's prominent directors.
In terms of who he's rooting for at the Academy Awards, Tarantino named Mad Max: Fury Road and George Miller as his picks for best picture and best director respectively.
Tarantino often releases a list of his favorite movies of each year, and quite often there are a few picks that surprise people. Films that have made his end-of-the-year lists include Kick-Ass 2, The Lone Ranger, The Three Musketeers, The Green Lantern and The Hangover Part II. He has also previously expressed his interest in romantic comedies, talking to Stephen Colbert on The Late Show about his experience crying while watching Ghosts of Girlfriends Past.
