HBO is working on a new comedy series from Pete Holmes and Judd Apatow.
According to Deadline, HBO has just given a series order to Crashing after ordering a pilot back in September. The semi-autobiographical comedy follows a comedian whose wife leaves him and who has nowhere to stay except on the couches of other New York comics. Apatow directed the pilot and serves as executive producer. Holmes will serve as writer, executive producer and star. Also set to produce are Josh Church (Trainwreck), Igor Srubshchik (Girls) and Oren Brimer (The Pete Holmes Show).
Holmes is known for the popular comedy podcast You Made It Weird, on which he has had conversations with comedians like Zach Galifianakis, Sarah Silverman, Dana Carvey, Chelsea Peretti and Bill Burr. TBS gave the comedian a half hour talk show in 2013 called The Pete Holmes Show, which was cancelled by the network after two seasons.
This is yet another comedy series produced by Apatow, who is also working on the Netflix series Love starring Paul Rust and Gillian Jacobs. However, Crashing will be Apatow's first time directing a pilot episode. He also produces the HBO series Girls, which will end after the upcoming sixth season.
