FXX cancels new animated series 'Cassius and Clay' before it airs

FXX has already pulled the plug on the animated series Cassius and Clay before a single episode even aired.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network has just decided to cancel the series. It was being developed by Archer creator Adam Reed and Community writer Megan Ganz.

The network had already ordered 10 episodes, which would have premiered this year.

Inspired by Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, the action comedy was going to follow two female bandits living in a post-apocalyptic America. Kaitlin Olson (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) would have played Cassius, while Lake Bell (In a World...) was set to play Clay. Susan Sarandon had also boarded as a series regular.

Cassius and Clay came from Floyd County Productions, which has an overall deal with FX. The studio developed the successful FX series Archer, but their two subsequent shows - Chozen and Unsupervised - were both cancelled after one season.

Meanwhile, FX has just announced it will develop a new animated comedy with Louis C.K. and Albert Brooks. Further details about this show remain unknown at this time.
