Fox greenlights ‘Prison Break’ sequel, ‘24’ pilot without Jack Bauer

Would anyone watch 24 without Kiefer Sutherland and his character, Jack Bauer? Fox is about to find out.

The network announced that it has officially ordered a pilot for 24: Legacy, with original 24 producers Howard Gordon, Manny Coto and Evan Katz working on it. It will be produced by 20th Century Fox TV, Imagine Television and Gordon’s Teakwood Lane Productions.

Legacy will include a whole new group of characters, but it will be presented in the same formula that made the original 24 series a hit. It will center on a military hero who is followed by his problems when he returns home. CTU will have to help him... and stop the terrorist attack that could be following him.

The other project Fox confirmed at the Television Critics Association Press Tour is much closer to fruition, notes The Hollywood Reporter. A follow-up series for Prison Break, with stars Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell returning, will happen as an event series. Creator Paul T. Scheuring, Neal Moritz, Marty Adelstein and Dawn Olmstead are all returning.

It’s not certain who many episodes Prison Break will run. It could be anywhere between six - like the upcoming X-Files series - to 12 episodes - like 24: Live Another Day.

The Prison Break revival was confirmed at the TCA summer press tour in August. The original series ran from 2005 to 2009. Both Miller and Purcell play characters in The CW’s Flash/Arrow/DC’s Legends of Tomorrow universe.
