Film on Barack and Michelle Obama's courtship premieres at Sundance

The Obamas have already been immortalized in a film.

The film, titled Southside with You, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this week and stars Tika Sumpter as Michelle Obama and newcomer Parker Sawyers as the POTUS himself, Barack Obama. The project was first revealed in December 2014.

The film follows the First Couple as they were in 1989 and depicts their first date. According to The New York Times, Sumpter also produced the film.

Yahoo Movies also reports that prior to the festival, the film was already getting quite a bit of buzz. Making the movie didn't come with out its share of worries, however.

“I was worried that the CIA would come shut us down! It is the leader of the free world, after all,” Sumpter said.

The New York Times reports that while the Obamas are aware of the film, they have yet to see it. It did well with fans at Sundance and director Richard Tanne is definitely not opposed to the President, or members of the Republican party going to see his film.

"It’s the answer to the age-old question at any dinner party: How did you meet? What was your first date like," Tanne said.
