The cast for the sequel to last year's wildly successful adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey is shaping up. The most notable recent addition? The series' Mrs. Robinson, who will be portrayed by Kim Basinger.
Entertainment Weekly reported that a source confirmed Basinger will play the role of Elena Lincoln, a character who remains unnamed in the first film, but who Ana (Dakota Johnson) nicknames "Mrs. Robinson" due to the fact that she was a much older lover of Christian's (Jamie Doran) who introduced him to BDSM at age 15.
The 62-year-old actress will likely be a welcome addition to a relatively young cast - at least, from the perspective of her future co-star, Dakota Johnson.
Earlier this month, Johnson spoke out about sexist ageism to British Vogue, remarking upon why her mother, Melanie Griffith, and her grandmother, Tippi Hedren, are no longer seen onscreen: “[My mother is] an extraordinary actress! Why isn’t my grandmother in movies? This industry is f‑‑‑ing brutal. No matter how tough you are, sometimes there’s the feeling of not being wanted. It’s absurd and cut-throat.”
