Artists can often be a bit precious about their work when it's being adapted into another medium, which is why Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld's praise for the upcoming film really meant something.
Liefeld recently attended a screening of the movie, and he certainly found no issues with this film's interpretation of his ideas.
"...Back in 2009, I freaked out when I read the screenplay because Deadpool has never ever been better than he was in that screenplay and when I saw this movie six weeks ago I was like, ‘How much of this script will carry?’ and what you just saw is the best version of Deadpool I have ever experienced in my life," Liefeld said, reports Screenrant.
That's some high praise, and Liefeld didn't automatically have to love the Ryan Reynolds film. In fact, on many occasions we've seen comic book creators take issue with movie versions of their work. A prominent example is the fact that frequent Batman comic book writer Frank Miller has hated every Batman movie that has been made, Slash Film points out.
It sounds like Deadpool is pretty true to the character's vulgar nature, and supporting that theory is the fact that the film was banned in China due to its graphic violence. That will likely be a huge blow to the box office gross, but it's still great news for fans that 20th Century Fox isn't toning this down to appeal to a broader demographic.
Deadpool hits theaters on Feb. 12.
