Celebrities react to Alan Rickman passing away at 69

Alan Rickman, who was known for his roles in Harry Potter and Love Actually, has died at the age of 69. He passed away after a battle with cancer.

Rickman had an extensive career in Hollywood including iconic roles in films like Die Hard and Robin Hood. He won an Emmy and Golden Globe for the 1996 TV movie Rasputin, along with BAFTA honors but never won an Oscar for his legendary roles. He had completed work on the upcoming, Alice Through The Looking Glass, in which he lends his voice to the Blue Caterpillar.

Upon the news of his passing being released, many celebrities took to social media to honor the actor. In addition to famous actors and celebrities reacting, many fans of Harry Potter have been posting tributes to Rickman, including an image of the students at Hogwarts holding up wands in remembrance for a fallen individual.

J.K. Rowling author of the Harry Potter series  was one of the first to take to Twitter to remember Rickman.

There are no words to express how shocked and devastated I am to hear of Alan Rickman's death. He was a magnificent actor & a wonderful man.

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe posted a moving tribute to his co-star on his Google+ account.

"Alan Rickman is undoubtedly one of the greatest actors I will ever work with," he wrote. "He is also one of the [most loyal] and most supportive people I’ve ever met in the film industry. He was so encouraging of me both on set and in the years post-Potter. I’m pretty sure he came and saw everything I ever did on stage both in London and New York. He didn’t have to do that. I know other people who’ve been friends with him for much much longer than I have and they all say ‘if you call Alan, it doesn’t matter where in the world he is or how busy he is with what he’s doing, he’ll get back to you within a day."

Taran Killam remembered Rickman's iconic rolls, including his villain role in Die Hard as Hans Gruber.

Long Live Snape. And Hans Gruber. And Sheriff of Nottingham. #saddestweek
