Brian Wilson to celebrate 50th anniversary of The Beach Boys’ ‘Pet Sounds’ with tour

Brian Wilson is taking Pet Sounds on the road again. The former Beach Boys member will perform the entirety of one of rock’s most beloved albums around the world again.

The first leg of the tour will kick off in Auckland, New Zealand on March 26 and will continue through April 15 in Osaka, Japan. (Coincidentally, the back cover of Pet Sounds includes images from a Beach Boys’ tour of Japan.)

After a show at Carson Creek Ranch in Austin, Texas on April 30, Wilson will go on a break before heading to the U.K. in May. After playing the Primavera Festival in Barcelona, Spain on June 4, Wilson will return to the U.S.

On June 17 and 18, Wilson will give a special performance at the Boston Symphony Hall with the Boston Pops Orchestra.

Pet Sounds was originally released in May 1966 and includes the hits “God Only Knows,” “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” and “Sloop John B.” In addition to his frequent touring band, Wilson will be touring with fellow former Beach Boys Al Jardine and Blondie Chaplin.

“It’s really been a trip to sit here and think about releasing Pet Sounds 50 years ago,” Wilson said in a statement. “I love performing this album with my band and look forward to playing it for fans all across the world.”

In 2015, Wilson’s life was the subject of the biopic Love & Mercy, which also focused on the recording of Pet Sounds.
