Blizzard of 2016 bears down on Mid-Atlantic, headed for East Coast

The snow has already started to fall in our nation’s capital and before it’s all said and done could be the biggest snowstorm to ever hit Washington D.C. It’s also set to take aim and cripple areas near the populated East Coast.

The Weather Channel has said that this particular storm, which it dubbed “Jonas,” could affect more than 85 million people as it hammers the region throughout the weekend.  As many as 20 states are currently under a blizzard warning, winter storm watch, winter storm warning, winter weather advisory or freezing rain advisory. The storm has already wreaked havoc in North Carolina and left thousands without power. Outages were reported in Virginia as well.

The severe weather is also causing some major headaches at many airports after several airlines were forced to cancel flights. Over 6,000 flights have been canceled for Friday and Saturday.

The amount of snowfall forecast depends on your location. Meteorologists predict that D.C. and Philadelphia could get around 2 feet while places in New York will only see a few inches.
