After over 20 years in the industry, one of Hollywood's best screenwriters is getting behind the camera.
According to Deadline, Aaron Sorkin will be making his directorial debut with Molly's Game, an adaptation of the popular memoir about the world of high-stakes underground poker. He will also write the movie, which was announced back in November 2014 when producer Mark Gordon optioned the book.
Sorkin is known for creating The West Wing and writing nearly every episode of that show for the first four seasons before being replaced as showrunner. He has since created Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and The Newsroom, but he got his start writing movies, with his first being A Few Good Men in 1992. Other popular films of his include The American President, Charlie Wilson's War, The Social Network and Moneyball.
When Sorkin decided to end his HBO series The Newsroom after three seasons, he said that this would likely be his last experience with television ever, foreshadowing this move to the director's chair.
"I've loved every minute I've spent in television," Sorkin said at the time, reports The Los Angeles Times. "And I've had much more failure, as traditionally measured, than success in television. I've done four shows, and only one of them was The West Wing."
Sorkin's latest was Steve Jobs, a movie which will likely earn him a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay at the Academy Awards.
