6. Kobe Bryant announces retirement
There comes a time in every great athlete’s career when they will decide to call it quits and utter the word “retire.” That time came this year when Kobe Bryant announced that he would retire from the NBA after finishing out this current season.
Byrant was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in 1996, right out of high school. He played for the LA organization his entire 20-year-career, was selected to 17 All-Star Games and won five NBA Championships, cementing himself on the list with the all-time Lakers greats of Magic Johnson, Wilt Chamberlain and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
