Record flooding continues to cause problems for Midwest, South

The heavy rainfall that battered the South and Midwest has continued to wreak havoc in the region as some rivers overflowed and poured into the streets.

Reuters noted that residents in Missouri, Illinois, Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma braced for more potential flooding on Thursday.

Many roadways are closed in the states and emergency personnel have been rescuing those who became trapped in their homes, businesses and vehicles by the rising water. The Associated Press reported that the demand is high and the calls coming in for help are frequent.

"Our crews are getting dispatched to another rescue now," said Scott Barthelmass, a Fire Protection District spokesman in Eureka, Missouri. "I think you're seeing people who are desperate or impatient, putting themselves in predicaments."

Authorities are reminding everyone if you have to venture out to go around but do not to drive through the flood waters. More than a dozen levees have already been breached and over 20 deaths in Missouri and Illinois alone are blamed on the flooding.
