Monsters, Inc. (2001), Peter Docter
Now, this is where it really gets tough. From here on out, I’ll be pitting films I love dearly against each other.
Monsters, Inc. is actually a more important movie for Pixar than people think. Released two years after Toy Story 2, it was the first film not directed at all by Lasseter. Thankfully, Pete Docter - who directed Inside Out - proved that Lasseter wasn’t the only genius in the Pixar camp. How they figured out how to make us believe that a little girl could wreak havoc in a world of monsters is still stunning.
