Cars (2006) & Cars 2 (2011), John Lasseter
The two Cars movies do reek of pet projects from John Lasseter, who rarely gets things wrong. While the first one is much closer to a good Pixar movie, Cars 2 feels like it was made merely to keep the Cars merchandising machine going. Amazingly, the first Cars is Pixar’s longest film, running 118 minutes and it certainly does feel like it. Both are flashy, wonderfully animated films, but they just don’t have the extra heart that makes it easy to fall in love with.
Cars 2 is one of only two Pixar movies not to be nominated for the Best Animated Feature Oscar since it was created. The other is Monsters University.
