Los Angeles Dodgers acquire Aroldis Chapman in trade with Cincinnati Reds

The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired closer Aroldis Chapman in a trade with the Cincinnati Reds on Monday.

The deal is pending approval of medical records. The Reds will receive two prospects as part of the trade, according to Fox Sports, which first reported the trade. The names of the two prospects that the Reds will get have not been revealed. Chapman becomes the Dodgers second closer, along with Kenley Jansen. Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports that the Dodgers plan to keep both Chapman and Jansen for now.

Chapman signed a six-year, $30 million contract with the Reds in January 2010 after being defected from Cuba. He is eligible for arbitration for a third and final time and is expected to make more than $10 million in 2016. This year he had 33 saves in 36 chances and 116 strikeouts and a 1.63 ERA in 65 appearances, according to MLB.com. Chapman has 546 strikeouts, 146 saves in 164 chances and a 2.17 ERA in his six-year-career.
Chapman will become a free-agent after the 2016 season. The Reds were 64-98 and finished last in the NL Central this year while the Dodgers were eliminated from the playoffs by the New York Mets.
