The next movie in the Alien franchise has just found its female lead.
According to The Wrap, Katherine Waterston has been cast in Ridley Scott's newest movie Alien: Covenant. This is the followup to Prometheus and she will star opposite Michael Fassbender as the android David.
This reunites Waterston and Fassbender after they co-starred in Steve Jobs earlier this year. Waterston was also recently seen in Inherent Vice and she will play the female lead in the new Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beats and Where to Find Them.
Though we had heard Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) would return in this movie, it's unclear if that's still the case. She was completely absent from the official plot description and this casting at least indicates that Shaw will probably not be the main character of the movie anymore.
Alien: Covenant follows a colony ship that discovers what they believe to be an uncharted paradise, but turns out to be a dangerous planet whose only inhabitant is David, survivor of the Prometheus expedition.
The movie will begin shooting this February for a summer 2017 release.
