Food Network star, Guy Fieri’s business partner, Steve Gruber, is suing him to try and prevent him from leaving the restaurant chain they founded together in 1998.
Fieri filed paperwork to try to dissolve his partnership with Johnny Garlic’s Inc. earlier this month, but Gruber has filed a petition to stop it.
According to NBC Washington, Gruber’s purpose for filing the petition was to halt Fieri’s exit from the chain so he can buy out his 50 percent share first.
Santa Ana, California’s Press Democrat reports Fieri filed his petition to the California secretary of state. There are seven locations of Johnny Garlic’s in Fieri’s home state of California.
A spokesperson for Fieri said in a statement, “After more than 20 successful years as a partner in Johnny Garlic’s Inc., Guy Fieri has chosen to separate from the company and its restaurants for creative and operational considerations. Guy wishes the entire Johnny Garlic’s Inc., team the best.”
Fieri and Gruber are now reportedly arguing over the price for Fieri’s shares of the company. Amy Witt, Johnny Garlic’s chief financial officer, said in a statement that Gruber is “exercising his right to purchase Guy’s shares under appropriate California codes.”
