Christopher Nolan to direct WWII film 'Dunkirk'

The mystery behind Christopher Nolan's next project has been lifted slightly. Nolan's next movie will be a World War II thriller, Dunkirk, based upon his own screenplay.

The movie is set to go into production in May and will be shot in IMAX 65mm and 65mm large format film photography.

Nolan will also be directing the project along with producing the film with his longtime film partner Emma Thomas.

Dunkirk is being described as an action/thriller and will focus on the 1940 evacuation in France, The Hollywood Reporter added. Not much else is known about the project but currently Tom Hardy and Kenneth Branagh are in talks to join the project.

Greg Silverman, president of creative development and worldwide production for Warner Bros., opened up about how pleased they are to be working with Nolan on this vision.

"We are thrilled to be continuing our collaboration with Christopher Nolan, a singular filmmaker who has created some of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful films of all time," he said. "Dunkirkis a gripping and powerful story and we are excited to see Chris, Emma and their cast realize it on the big screen."

Dunkrik is expected to be released on July 21, 2017.
