‘Affluenza’ teen Ethan Couch caught in Mexico with mother

Ethan Couch, the infamous Texas teen who used the ‘affluenza’ as a defense to get out of jail time for a deadly car crash two years ago, was captured in Mexico on Monday night. He fled with his mother to the popular resort town Puerto Vallarta after authorities started investigating him for possibly violating the terms of his probation.

Back in 2013, Couch’s defence attorneys claimed that he suffered from “affluenza” because his parents never taught him the difference between right and wrong. Despite killing four people while drunk driving under age, he was sentenced to only 10 years probation.

A few weeks ago, local officials began investigating Couch for a possible violation of his probation after he was seen in a video that allegedly showed him at a party where others were drinking alcohol. Couch and his mother went missing and a warrant was issued, reports CNN. The U.S. Marshals Service then launched an international manhunt for Couch, 18, and his mother, Tonya Couch, 48.

Mexican and American authorities confirmed that Couch and his mother were found in Mexico. The Jalisco State Prosecutor’s Office confirmed in a statement to ABC News that they were arrested at around 6 p.m. local time. According to The New York Times, Jalisco State will give them to Mexico’s National Institute of Migration and will later be turned over the U.S. authorities.

ABC News also received a photo of Couch, showing him with his hair dyed to look black.
