Adele’s ‘25’ reaches 4 million in U.S. sales

Adele’s new album, 25, was released November 20 and has already reached an impressive benchmark.

According to The New York Times, 25 has sold over 650,000 copies in its second week and 4 million in total. Adele’s previous album, 21, sold 4.41 million in the entire year in 2012, so clearly fans have missed her music and are more than happy that she is back.

The album is projected to sell another million copies by December 3, which would make it the first album to sell a million copies in more than one week, Billboard reported.

Since the turn of the century, CD sales have been down due to online torrenting or digital download. 25 joins an elite group of 20 albums to sell over one million copies in one week.

With the 4 million in sales, 25 will easily top the Billboard 200 and be the highest selling album of 2015. A potential key to its success may be because Adele did not put the album on any streaming service, forcing fans to go out and buy the album.
