‘Star Wars’ fan hopes to see ‘The Force Awakens’ before he dies, gets Mark Hamill’s support

Daniel Fleetwood, a Star Wars fan in Spring, Texas is hoping to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens early. It’s his dying wish and he’s nervous that he won’t live to see the film’s Dec. 18 release.

In July, Fleetwood’s oncologist told him that he would only have two months to live because he suffers from spindle cell sarcoma, a rare connective tissue cancer, Click2Houston reports. So, Fleetwood has already lived longer than his doctor expected, but he knows the disease has worsened.

“Judging by how progressive the disease has gotten in the past two months,” Fleetwood told the network. “I really don’t think that I’ll be able to make it.”

Fleetwood’s story has gone viral since the report. #ForceForDaniel is going around Twitter and even actors Mark Hamill and John Boyega have retweeted his story.

This story sounds very similar to one from 2013, when director J.J. Abrams’ previous film, star Trek Into Darkness, was about to hit theaters. A terminally ill fan from New York hoped to see the film and his story went viral. Abrams and Paramount helped him see the film. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed at the time that he died just days after seeing the film.
