Ryan Gosling to play Neil Armstrong

Neil Armstrong was the first man on the moon, so, naturally, a biopic is in the works and pretty boy Ryan Gosling may be the man to play him.

According to Deadline, Universal Studios wants Ryan Gosling to star in their upcoming film about Armstrong. The film is called First Man and is directed by Damien Chazelle who also directed Whiplash.

Cinema Blend reports that Gosling is also working with Chazelle in a project called La La Land so they would be working together in back to back films.  First Man is based on the biography, First Man: A Life of Neil A. Armstrong, written by James Hansen.

In 1969 Neil Armstrong boarded the Apollo 11 and landed on the moon. Since we are approaching the 50th anniversary the film will come at an appropriate time.

The film was originally picked up by Warner Bros and wanted Clint Eastwood to direct and produce. Obviously that is not the case and Temple Hill partners Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen are producing instead.

No release date has been announced yet as the film is still in the early stages.
