Peyton Reed wants to make Wasp as awesome as possible in 'Ant-Man' sequel

Marvel's Ant-Man was at the center of many headlines during production when long time attached director Edgar Wright left the film. Comedy director Peyton Reed took over the project and Ant-Man has now grossed $500 million at the worldwide box office.

Upon the film's success, Marvel announced a sequel to the heist film and Reed is currently in talks to return to direct.

During an interview with MTV News, Reed explained his vision for the Ant-Man sequel and said that negotiations for his return to Marvel seemed to be going great.

"We’re still in the middle of negotiation, but it’s looking pretty great,” he said. “I’m dying to come back and do the movie. I’m very excited about it. It’ll be a movie with a fully fleshed-out female superhero."

The sequel, titled Ant-Man and the Wasp, could potentially feature Evangeline Lilly’s character front and center.

“It’s such a no-brainer that there needs to be female heroes," said Reed.

He wants to make her character as awesome as possible in the upcoming sequel.

"That was one of the things that was important to me in the first movie when I came on was emphasizing the Wasp more, both Hope Van Dyne and Janet Van Dyne. It’s a crucial part. It’s a crucial part because in the comic books, with the exception of the first handful of Ant-Man stories, Wasp came on pretty early on in the comics in the ’60s and you really thought of them as a partnership, a romantic partnership as well as a hero team. It’s going to be fun to play around with all the aspects of that in this movie," detailed Reed.

Ant-Man will be released on blu-ray on Dec 8.
