As a Thanksgiving gift to fans, co-director/co-writer Chris Miller announced that he has turned in the script to The Lego Movie sequel.
“Just turned in the official first draft of LEGO Movie 2,” Miller tweeted. “Hello, Thanksgiving.”

It’s the first major announcement in months for the anticipated Lego Movie sequel, which will bring back Jurassic World and Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt as the voice of Emmet. While Phil Lord and Miller will not be returning as directors, they are writing the script.
Instead, Rob Schrab (Community, Parks and Recreation, The Mindy Project) is set to direct the film. Lord and Miller, the creative producers of the LEGO Movie franchise, will also be producing the upcoming The LEGO Batman Movie and Ninjago.
In an interview with Empire earlier this year, Miller teased the plot of The LEGO Movie 2, saying that it could potentially feature a meta story line.
“Well I don’t want to give you spoilers but we were really interested in what happens to that boy who’s in the meta story in the first movie when he’s four years older,” Miller said. “When he’s an adolescent how does that change his point of view? And it’s nice to have the characters start in a different place from the first movie.”
“Emmet, for example, was in an existential crisis of having seen another dimension and was questioning the whole point of his existence,” Miller added.
The Lego Movie sequel is set to arrive in theaters on May 18, 2018.
The Lego Batman Movie, meanwhile, is schedule for release on Feb. 10, 2017, and will feature a star-studded cast, with Michael Cera as Robin, Rosario Dawson as Batgirl, Zach Galifinakis as The Joker, Mariah Carey as Commissioner Gordon, Ralph Fiennes as Bruce Wayne’s butler Alfred Pennyworth and Will Arnett reprising his role as Batman.
