Kings’ Demarcus Cousins paying for funeral of slain teenager

Demarcus ‘Boogie’ Cousins may be a grump on the hardwood, but he’s proving to have a soft side off of it, too.

According to a Sacramento city official, Cousins is helping the family of a slain high school football player by paying for the funeral, according to ESPN. Cousins had wished for his gesture to remain anonymous, but various media outlets have reported on the story.

Sacramento city council member Rick Jennings confirmed on Saturday that Cousins had offered to take care of the funeral expenses for Jaulon Clavo, a Grant Union High School senior who had been shot in the neck while driving with four other players.

The news had leaked out at a candlelight vigil held in Clavo’s memory on Saturday, reported Sean Cunningham of KXTV.

The 16-year-old Clavo was driving when shots were fired at the car, hitting him and another player.

Cousins has been known to attend local high school football and basketball games, including those at Grant Union. Despite his typically moody and temperamental disposition, Cousins is no stranger to giving back to the community, having made a $27,915.05 donation towards the purchase of LED backboards for Sacramento High School’s gym earlier this summer.
