Kim Cattrall has pulled out of the play Linda about a week before it’s scheduled to begin at London's Royal Court Theatre.
Noma Dumezweni will replace Cattrall, who said in a statement that she was forced to pull out due to doctors’ orders.
The former Sex and the City star said it’s "with great sadness and at the advice of my doctors" that she would have to bow out, BBC reports. The actress also thanked Royal Court Theatre for “allowing me to put my health first.”
The theatre’s artistic director, Vicky Featherstone, also said in a statement that they’re “extremely grateful” to Dumezweni for agreeing to “take on this challenge at such short notice.”
Cattrall didn’t disclose what the cause of her illness is. In recent years she's appeared in plays like Sweet Bird of Youth and Private Lives, CBC News notes.
"We are delighted that in spite of these difficulties Penelope Skinner's important play can open to our audiences with minimal disruption,” Featherstoe continued.
