Gina Rodriguez in talks to join ‘Annihilation’

Gina Rodriguez made her name in Jane the Virgin and now she is in talks to join Oscar winner Natalie Portman in an upcoming movie.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Rodriguez is in talks to star alongside Portman in Annihilation. Alex Garland, who is coming off the momentum of Ex Machina, will helm the film. Rodriguez earned a Golden Globe for best actress in a comedic role in Jane the Virgin.

Annihilation is based off on the novel by Jeff VanderMeer. The plot follows a group of women who embark on a secret, dangerous mission where the laws of nature don’t apply. The group consists of an anthropologist, a surveyor, a psychologist and a biologist, who serves as the narrator.

According to Variety, filming is going to take place in spring 2016 due to Paramount’s busy schedule.

Rodriguez has had a few movie roles including a supporting role in Mark Wahlberg’s Deepwater Horizon. Annihilation will be the biggest movie role of her career. She is repped by APA, Primary Wave Entertainment and Jackoway Tyerman Wertheimer Austen Mandelbaum Morris & Klein.
