It seems like spin-off franchises are the new trend in Hollywood. The Walking Dead, Star Wars, Transformers and Marvel have all done it, now another big franchise is joining the fray.
Variety reports that a Fast and Furious spin-off is in development. The series has a list of diverse characters that could make interesting stories and with the profit the previous installments have made it only makes sense.
"We've written out story lines for various characters," Fast & Furious franchise star, Vin Diesel told Variety. "We've been playing with it for a long time. It's a very rich property and we're committed to treating with a lot of class."
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has been a possibility for a standalone film, Comic Book.com noted. He plays Luke Hobbs and is relatively new to the franchise but has made quite an impact.
For the near future the studios are making three more sequels but after those are wrapped up it is speculated that spin offs and/or prequels will start being produced.
