Emma Stone joins ‘Battle of the Sexes’

Emma Stone has made herself a household name in recent years and she has recently signed on to her next project.

Variety reports that Stone is joining the cast of Battle of the Sexes. She will play tennis player Billie Jean King in the Fox Searchlight picture. She will be starring alongside Steve Carell, who is playing Bobby Riggs.

Stone was originally cast to play the part but had to back out due to scheduling issues. This gave Brie Larson a chance to step up. However, Larson signed on to star in Glass Castle, The Hollywood Reporter reports.

Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris will direct from a script written by Simon Beaufoy. Danny Boyle is representing Decibel as a producer along with Christian Colson and Cloud Eight.

The film will follow the competition between King and Riggs from 1973. The No. 2 ranked King, who was 29 at the time, beat the 55-year-old retired former Wimbledon champion Riggs.

Stone can be seen next in Lionsgate’s La La Land, with her other Crazy, Stupid, Love co-star Ryan Gosling. She is repped by WME, Anonymous Content and Ziffren Brittenham.

With Stone rejoining the project, filming is expected to start early next year.
