For the second consecutive year, one of Hollywood’s most successful leading men will receive the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes. This year, the lifetime achievement honor will go to Denzel Washington.
The two-time Oscar winner and two-time Golden Globe winner will pick up the award on Sunday, Jan. 10 during the 73rd Annual Golden Globes.
“Washington’s long and storied career is earmarked by his countless roles in front and behind the camera,” HFPA president Lorenzo Soria said Monday. “It is the HFPA’s privilege to honor his contributions to the entertainment industry with the Cecil B. DeMille Award.”
Washington won his first Oscar for his supporting role in Glory and became the first African-American actor to win Best Actor when he won for Training Day. His golden Globe wins came for Glory and The Hurricane.
Washington is also an Emmy way from an EGOT. He already has a Tony and won a Grammy for a recording of John Henry. His most recent film was The Equalizer and will next star in a remake of The Magnificent Seven.
Last year’s Cecil B. DeMille Award winner was George Clooney. Other recipients include Woody Allen, Jodie Foster, Morgan Freeman, Robin Williams, Barbra Streisand, and Robin Williams.
The Golden Globes will air live on NBC on Jan. 10. Comedian Ricky Gervais is hosting.
