Chris Martin is admitting to hitting a rough patch in his life before his 10-year marriage to Gwyneth Paltrow ended, but he’s happy to have come out the other end of it.
The couple announced they were ‘consciously uncoupling’ in March 2014, only to finalize the divorce a year later, and it seems starting a new life on his own has helped him in the long run.
"A few years ago I was in a low place in my life and was feeling kind of down and confused,” he said on Australian radio show 2DayFM. He continued to say he was given a book called Man's Search for Meaning, as well as a poem called ‘The Guest' House “by an Afghanistani poet, teacher.”
“Those two things started me off on this whole journey that's ended up a few years later now where I just feel so happy to be alive,” he added.
Martin, whose final album with Coldplay is coming out next month, shares two children with Paltrow; a daughter Apple and son Moses.
"That may sound a little simple but I suddenly feel very grateful for all these things in my life,” he said. "I just feel happy to be alive and if it's coming across then that's because it's real."
