As a child of the 80s, it's ingrained in me that to get the biggest sound you needed the biggest boom box available. I do love my music, my iPod is crammed full of tunes spanning 5+ decades, and finding quality sound that compares to that big boombox isn’t always easy to find.
I had the opportunity to try out the Boombotix BoomBot Pro wireless speakers and am truly impressed by the quality of sound that comes from a device that I can hold in the palm of my hand and doesn’t need a dozen D batteries.
First off, let’s get this out of the way, it’s pretty. The hexagon shape, and black color allow it to fit into any range of decor (not that you notice it, since it’s so small!), it has a clip on the back to carry the sound with you - no shoulder pads required!
More important the sound really booms. With my volume set at about 33 percent I could hear the music clearly on the other side of my house, which is about 1,200 square feet, on the front porch and back deck (with doors open) relatively well. With the volume maxed it was loud across the house that I could sing along (which is truly cringe-worthy), and I could hear it outside, while it was inside, to my garden, enough to listen, not to sing though.
I love loud, booming music, with extra bass, and the BoomBot Pro kept up, and didn’t vibrate excessively.
The wireless controls have ridiculous range. I had my iPod about halfway across my house before it started cutting out, which is awesome for me since it’s in my living room and I can bring the iPod into the kitchen and control the tunes without interference when making dinner. Although that's not really necessary since, the BoomBot Pro also has internal storage, so you can add you favorite tunes to it and bring it with you without carrying an extra device. It holds 2 gigabytes, or about 250 songs.
Battery-life, the “all-day” battery really is just that. I was using it for about 5-7 hours, and then on standby, which gave it about 36 hours. It recharges with a micro USB very quickly.
Want it poolside but worried about water damage? No problem! It’s waterproof up to 3 meters (9 feet). It can withstand impact up to about the same distance. And if not the 1-year, no questions asked warranty can fix that for you.
It’s more than just a music-playing device though. It is has Siri and Google Voice integration, so you can answer your phone, ask for directions, and more with the touch of a button.
The Boombot PRO pairs with any Bluetooth compatible device including smartphones, MP3 players, tablets and computers.
