Trailer Park: ‘Pan’ hopes to fly to the top of the box office

Two of the most popular American products are on the forefront of two of this week’s new releases. Audiences get an inside look at the release of Apple’s computers by Steve Jobs and what makes a Ford Mustang run. Also hitting theaters is a prequel to J.M. Barrie’s classic children’s story.

The backstory behind how Peter Pan got to Neverland is told in Pan. Taken away from his orphanage in London, Peter is one day brought to Neverland where he learns about his family history and destiny, all while battling the pirate Blackbeard to save the land for his newfound friends. The PG family adventure stars Hugh Jackman, Garrett Hedlund, Amanda Seyfried, Rooney Mara and Levi Miller. It plays for one hour and fifty-one minutes.

Get a new perspective on the man behind Apple with Steve Jobs. The two hour and one minute film takes place over the course of fourteen years, from the 1984 launch of the Macintosh to 1998’s iMac. Michael Fassbender stars as in the dramatic biopic alongside Kate Winslet, Seth Rogen and Jeff Daniels. The film is rated R for language. It’s playing in limited theaters but expands to wide release on October 23.

A family man lets two young women into his house to use his phone in Knock Knock. The women lure him to cheat on his wife and then terrorize him for his infidelity. Keanu Reeves stars in the one hour and thirty-nine minute thriller. The limited released film is rated R for violence, sex, nudity and language.

An unmarried woman in a small Virginia town comes to terms with being single in Big Stone Gap. Following the death of her mother, she uncovers family secrets that turn her world upside down. The limited released romantic comedy is based on Adriana Trigiani’s novel of the same name and stars Ashley Judd, Patrick Wilson, Whoopi Goldberg, Jenna Elfman, Jane Krakowski and Anthony LaPaglia. The one hour and forty-three minute film is rated PG-13.

The daughter of a popular scream queen finds herself inside her late mother’s cult classic horror film with her friends in The Final Girls. As a machete slayer goes on a killing spree, the group must figure out the best tactic to stay alive. The PG-13 comedic horror film stars Taissa Farmiga and Malin Akerman. The limited released film runs for one hour and thirty-one minutes.

Three boys uncover a wallet while rummaging through the garbage in Trash. When offered a reward from the police for its return, the boys recognize that their find is worth more than it appears. The limited released adventure runs for one hour and fifty-four minutes. It’s rated R for violence and language.

The history and the reinvention of the Ford Mustang is shown in A Faster Horse. The one hour and twenty-four minute documentary showcases the iconic car through a behind the scenes look at the factory, interviews with designers, collectors and fans and archival footage of the legendary automotive family. The unrated film is available in limited theaters.

A night on the town gets out of control for a young woman in Victoria. After partying with some new friends, she finds herself involved in a dangerous bank robbery. The unrated dramatic thriller is running in limited theaters for two hours and eighteen minutes.

J.M. Barrie’s children’s literary character Peter Pan made his way to the big screen this week. Next week, a popular children’s book series makes its film debut with the R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps. For the adults, October 16 also brings the release of the horror film Crimson Peak.
