‘Serial’ podcast coming to TV thanks to Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Fox 21

Serial, podcast

Serial, the popular NPR podcast that became a pop culture sensation last year, is coming to television from an unlikely team. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, along with Fox 21 Television Studios, are developing the project.

Lord, Miller and Fox 21 - the studio behind Homeland - are working on hiring writers, reports The Hollywood Reporter. After that, they will begin shopping it to cable networks.

It’s not clear what exactly the show will be, but it is not expected to follow the case of Adnan Syed, who was convicted of murdering Hae Min Lee in Baltimore in 1999. That was the case host Sarah Koenig followed in the first season of the This american Life spin-off. The podcast became so popular that NPR has renewed it for two seasons.

Last week, Maxim reported that the second season of Serial will focus on the case of Bowe Bergdahl.

Miller and Lord have successfully worked both on television and in film, particularly with The LEGO Movie and Fox’s Last Man On Earth. In July, they were hired to helm a Star Wars stand-alone movie about Han Solo and are also working on an animated Spider-Man film for Sony.
